10 Apr How to Draw VITRAL (Tangle Step by Step)

Do you like grid based tangles with an organic touch? Here’s the step by step instructions to help you draw my original tangle VITRAL:

VITRAL combines three of my favorite Zentangle elements: square grids, petals and auras. I created it for a workshop I taught in May 2024 over at Caype, a beautiful art store in Vitoria-Gasteiz (northern Spain). You can see it in one of the petal tiles I showcased there:

This tangle could be considered a variation of Eye-Wa by Zentangle. I think it leaves a lot of room to experiment: you can draw the initial grid with organic lines, fill in every other band in between the auras, add color inside the petals… it’s all up to you!
