12 Nov How to Draw OJITO (Tangle Step by Step)
Do you love border tangles and ribbon-based Zentangle patterns? 😊 Then you’ll enjoy learning OJITO, one of my original tangles! Follow these step-by-step instructions to draw it yourself:

OJITO is one of my beloved border tangles. It has a woven, ribbon-like structure and repeating eye shapes that give it a slightly mysterious (even spooky) character.
This tangle uses a weaving technique to create the illusion of a band that ties all the little eyes together. You can keep it simple or go wild with embellishments, like adding radial lines that resemble eyelashes. You can make it as detailed as you want!
The inspiration behind my tangle OJITO
OJITO comes from the Spanish word ojo, meaning “eye“. I’ve always found eyes fascinating… haven’t we all tried to draw them as kids? For some reason, they capture curiosity and imagination from the very beginning.
So, this tangle is a small homage to those early doodles, to the kids who filled every corner of a page with eyes looking in all directions.

Designed for the 5th Ubuntu Zentangle Congress:
I created OJITO especially for a Zentangle workshop I taught at the 5th Ubuntu congress in Madrid, the biggest Spanish-speaking Zentangle event in the world! If you wanna know more about that experience and get inspired by all the workshops I attended, read my blog post here.
Here’s the final result from my class, where we drew several border tangles in rectangular tiles and pieced them together using the paper weaving technique:

Now it’s your turn to try OJITO!
